When I decided to leap into the nomad life, my biggest questions revolved around work and finances. Because if I wanted to maintain this lifestyle long-term, I had to find the answers to: How do I pay for things + make money? and What will my work situation look like?
From my research, I discovered that many nomads take a gap year or sabbatical to start their travels. While I did this for a time (living off my savings), I knew it couldn’t last long.
So I explored all things related to the business side of living the nomad life. In the end, I decided to start a business as a health and wellness copywriter because I felt it would give me the most freedom to set my hours and schedule.
But it’s not the only way to make money while you travel – or the only question you’ll need to answer. Others will pop up along the way like:
I’ll be honest: this isn’t the fun part of being a digital nomad. But it’s necessary – especially when “wingin’ it” often results in more anxiety and overpaying.
That’s why I want to share what I learned along the way – from my best business tips to embarrassing mistakes. So you can learn how to successfully and confidently maintain this lifestyle when you take The Nomad Leap!
I used to design interior spaces for corporate offices and healthcare facilities. I loved creating a design from scratch and watching it transform into the complex systems that make up an entire space or building. But after a decade in the architecture & design industry, I got burnt out and needed a change.
When I was little, I always wanted to be an astronaut. My dad and I used to watch sci-fi movies together and it lead to a fascination with all things space. (Contact with Jodie Foster is my favorite sci-fi movie!) Then I learned that I don’t like flying – or heights. So that dream of walking in space lives only in my mind
I’m a copywriter and advocate for holistic health. I’m a travel writer for those who want to learn about nomad life. And I even tutor in AutoCAD on occasion to help pay the bills. Basically, I’m a multi-passionate entrepreneur working and living on my terms. (Go check out Marie Forleo’s work if you’re not familiar with that term!)
Hi, I’m Melanie!
A few years ago, I decided I was done with rushed vacations and short stays in exotic places. I wanted to travel for months (or years!) on my schedule. So I set out to make it happen – and I learned a lot along the way. Now, I want to share my knowledge so you can master long-term travel, too.
